The grand tour of South India is a elaborate tour where you start from Chennai and end the tour in Bangalore travelling through the three South Indian States of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. The tour is more of a spiritual, architectural, cultural, covers high ranges of the Western Ghats and and the backwaters of Kerala. You would be arriving at Chennai Airport (MAA) and further moving down to Mahabalipuram and Pondicherry through the East Coast. drive further interior to Kumbakonam and Tanjore to visit the Ancient Chola Temples. Experience the the mansions of the Chettiars in Chettinad, their affluent lifestyle and village life. Drive past the Temple Town of Madurai to reach the spice hub of South India – Thekkady, lying in the Western Ghats. Move down to the backwaters of Alleppey, Kerala, explore the backwater life here and drive to Cochin- The Old Port Town.
Board a morning train to Kozhikode, a prominent city in North Kerala where you will be watching the ancient art of ship building, from where you will drive to the hill of Wayanad, experiencing plantations, tea, coffee and tribal life. Visit Ooty from Wayanad, the summer capital of British India. From Ooty you will be entering the state of Karnataka to Kabini, you will have game viewing safaries at the Nagarhole National Park. Visit the Ancient temples constructed by the Hoysala Kings. Finally you will be finish your Grand Tour of South India departing from Bangalore (BLR) after visiting the Magnificent Palace of the Woodeyar Kings at Mysore.
Day 1 – Arrival at Chennai (MAA) Airport – Transfer to Mahabalipuram
On arrival at Chennai Airport, transfer to the Temple Town of Mahabalipuram (70 kilometers 2 hours). Rest of the day at leisure.
Day 2 – Sightseeing tour of Mahabalipuram
Today you will visit Mahabalipuram along with an English speaking local guide. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 3 – Drive to Pondicherry
Transfer to Pondicherry (100 kilometers 2 hours) enroute visit the spiritual village of Auroville
Day 4 – At Pondicherry
Today you will be going for a walking tour of Pondicherry where you will visit both the Tamil and the French Quarter.
Day 5 – Transfer to Kumbakonam
Transfer to the Temple town of Kumbakonam (170 kilometers 3.5 hours) enroute visit the Temple of Chidambaram and the Chola Temple of Gangaikonda Cholapuram
Day 6 – Drive to Chettninad
Today you will drive to the land of affluent Chettiars (150 kilometers 3 hours) enroute you will visit the Temple of Darasuram and the World famous 1000 year old Temple at Tanjore.
Day 7 – Full day sightseeing tour of chettinad
Today you will go for a Bullock cart ride followed by a visit Athangudi tile making unit, the Chettinad market and the bronze museum at Karaikudi.
Day 8 – Transfer to the Temple town of Madurai
On arrival at Madurai (120 kilometers 2.5 hours) You will visit the Gandhi Museum, the market, the nayakar Palace and go the Meenakshi temple for the night ceremony.
Day 9 – Drive to Thekkady
On arrival at Thekkady (160 kilometers 3 hours) you will take part in an Elephant ride and spice palntation tour.
Day 10 – Drive to Alleppey for a houseboat cruise
On arrival at Alleppey (160 kilometers 4 hours) board a houseboat for a day cruise and overnigth stay with all meals served on board.
Day 11 – Transfer to Cochin
Transfer to Cochin, check in at the hotel on arrival. Proceed for a half day sightseeing tour of Cochin.
Day 12 – Board Indian Railway train to Calicut and from there to Wayanad.
Board a train to the North Kerala city of Calicut from where you will be transferred to Wayanad by surface.
Day 13 – Day tour in Wayanad
Plantation tour in Wayanad, visit the tribal settlement and rest of the day at leisure.
Day 14 – Transfer to Ooty
Ooty is (130 kilometers 3.5 hours) from Wayanad through the tea plantations.
Day 15 – Sightseeing tour of Ooty
Visit the Tribal Toda Settlement, the tea plantations and the St. Stephen church as part of the city tour of Ooty.
Day 16 – Drive to Kabini
Drive to Kabini (120 kilometers 3 hours), settle at the resort on arrival.
Day 17 – Morning and evening Safaris
Go to Nagarhole National Park for a morning and evening Jeep safari for Game Viewing
Day 18 – Drive to Hassan
Transfer to Hassan (150 kilometers 3.5 hours) afternoon visit the ancient hoysala temples of Belur and Habebidu
Day 19 – Visit Mysore
Transfer to Mysore, on arrival visit the Mysore Palace of the Woodeyar King.
Day 20 – Drive to Bangalore
