Kumararkom village tourism

Kumarakom is a quiant backwater village is the beautiful state of Kerala ninty kilometers South of Cochin International Airport. Kumararkom is right opposite to the backwater town of Alleppey on the Vembanad Lake, the largest backwater lake in Kerala. Kumarakom is mostly consists of small villages where agriculture and backwater related occupations are the prime incomes.

Kumarakom is considered to be the first destination in Kerala to have adopted a Responsible tourism model which goes with the tag line – Better places for people to live and better places for people to visit.

This backwater town has limited or very less houseboats compared to Alleppey, however most the luxury backwater resorts are located in Kumarakom. Sunset cruise from these backwater resorts is very common in the evening. Other interesting activities include visit to the local villages, country canoe rides, toddy tapping, duck farming, coir weaving and many more. The responsible tourism body which comes under the Govt. of Kerala – Department of tourism organized many interesting village programs for guests staying in Kumarakom. The bird sanctuary here is home to many migratory birds and if a favorite place for many birders.
